Everything you wanted to know about software, file upload, and the question about Mac and deleted file that is still playing
Q: What video file format is recommended for video brochures?
A: While our products are capable of playing videos in various formats, we recommend converting video files to MP4 file format.
Q: What resolution should the video be in?
A: The video needs to be converted to the native resolution of the screen. The native resolution depends on the size and type of the screen.
Q: What if the video doesn’t play and the screen says “no file”?
A: If the video does not play even if it’s uploaded, and the screen says “no file”, most likely the video is not in the correct resolution. The video needs to be resized to the resolution of the screen.
Q: In what order do the video files play?
A: The video files will play in alphabetical and numerical order, so if several files are uploaded, they should be named according to the order they should play, like 01.mp4, 02.mp4, 03.mp4, etc.
Q: What is the memory capacity of most video brochures?
A: Most of our video brochures have 256 Mb memory capacity, which is good for 8-12 minutes depending on the screen.
Q: How can I update the video on a video brochure?
A: Simply connect the brochure to a computer via the supplied USB cable and a new drive will appear. Delete the existing file and upload a new file, or add a new file and name it accordingly.
Q: Can video brochures play image slide shows?
A: Some video brochures can also play a slideshow with a set of images. Images must be resized to the screen’s resolution. They will play based on the file name in alpha-numerical order. This feature must be requested during an order.
Q: Do video brochures have volume memory?
A: Yes, our brochures have a volume memory. If a volume is adjusted and the brochure is closed, when opened again, it will retain the volume set during the previous playback.
Q: Can video brochures be locked to prevent file download or deletion?
A: Only brochures with buttons can be locked to prevent files from being downloaded or deleted. The password is a sequence of button presses. This feature must be requested during an order.
Q: Are there any specific video codecs or encoding settings you recommend for best playback?
A: While MP4 is recommended, for optimal compatibility and playback quality, we suggest using the H.264 video codec with AAC audio. Ensure a constant frame rate (e.g., 25fps or 30fps) and a bitrate that balances file size with visual quality, matching the screen’s native resolution.
Q: What image file formats are supported for slideshows?
A: For image slideshows, we primarily recommend using JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg) or PNG (.png) file formats. Ensure images are resized to the screen’s native resolution for the best display quality, as larger files will take up more memory and potentially slow down transitions.
Q: What happens when the video brochure is opened if no video is playing?
A: By default, video brochures are set to auto-play the first video file (e.g., 01.mp4) as soon as the brochure is opened or powered on. If no video is present, the screen will typically display a “No File” message.
Q: Is there a maximum recommended video length for optimal performance and user engagement?
A: While memory capacity determines the absolute maximum video length, we generally recommend keeping videos concise and impactful, typically between 1 to 3 minutes, depending on your message. Shorter, high-quality videos often lead to better user engagement and ensure the entire message is consumed.
Q: Can a static image be displayed before video playback begins?
A: Yes, it’s a common feature of our devices to have a static splash screen or introductory image display for a few seconds before the main video content automatically begins playing. This can be used for branding, a title slide, or an initial message. If required, the image can be updated.
Q: I deleted a video file from my brochure on my Mac, but it’s still playing. Why?
A: This is a common behavior when deleting files from external drives on a Mac. When you drag a file to the Trash from your video brochure (which acts as an external drive), the file is moved to a hidden .Trashes folder on the brochure itself. It’s not truly deleted from the brochure’s memory until you empty your Mac’s Trash while the video brochure is still connected to your computer. If you empty the trash, it will solve the problem.
