As the world moves towards a universal charging standard, we are taking a proactive step to align our innovative video brochures, video mailers, video books, and other display-based devices with the latest USB-C technology. This transition is driven by the recently adopted European Union law and the proposed legislation in California, both mandating USB-C as the common charging port for portable electronics.
The European Parliament’s landmark decision in June 2022 requires all new smartphones, tablets, e-readers, and other portable devices sold in the European Union (EU) to use USB-C by the fall of 2024. This law aims to reduce electronic waste and provide consumers with a seamless charging experience across different devices and brands. That change will eventually shape the standard in the US as devices will more and more use USB-C to stay compatible.
In the US, California became the first state to mandate USB-C charging for all electronic devices. This legislation, passed unanimously in April 2023, will take effect in 2026. By establishing USB-C as the universal charging standard for devices like laptops and phones, California hopes to reduce the e-waste generated by many incompatible chargers significantly. This step by California could pave the way for a nationwide shift towards a more streamlined approach to charging electronics.
USB-C offers several advantages over previous USB versions, making it the ideal choice for our cutting-edge video brochure, video mailers, video boxes, and other solutions:
- Reversible design: The USB-C connector can be plugged in either way.
- Increased power delivery: USB-C can carry more power than previous USB connectors, enabling faster charging.
- Durability: The USB-C connector is more robust and durable than the older micro-USB connectors, ensuring a longer lifespan for our video brochures.
As theVideoCards serves customers domestically and internationally, complying with these new laws and standardizing USB compatibility across our devices is crucial. While our current inventory of video mailers and video brochures with micro-USB cables will be phased out gradually, all new products from the third quarter of this year will feature USB-C ports exclusively.
By embracing USB-C, theVideoCards is not only aligning with global regulations but also prioritizing a unified and sustainable charging experience for our customers. This strategic move will reduce cable waste in the long run and ensure seamless compatibility with widely used USB-C cables across various devices.
As the US leader in the video brochure industry, we remain committed to delivering innovative solutions that combine cutting-edge technology with exceptional user experiences. Adopting USB-C is another step towards our goal of providing customers with a consistent, future-proof, and customer-friendly video brochure ecosystem.
